The Steam page for CottageCore is now live, along with the first announcement trailer. I wanted to share it here with the Babylon community!
CottageCore is my cozy building game about making a place of your own and caring for the people who live there. Shape cottages and towers, bring a little village to life, and prepare homes and supplies for winter.
You can focus on building in Creative, with every trade unlocked and no mana costs, or play God of the Glade and look after your village through the seasons. And yes, your cottages can float on clouds.
Under the hood, it runs on Babylon Lite. There’s freeform construction, changing weather, wildlife and a village simulation sharing the same little world. I’d be happy to talk about the rendering and tools if you’re curious!
The Windows PC release is planned for April 14, 2027. The trailer shows an alpha build.
If it looks like your kind of game, a wishlist would mean a lot:
I’m curious about your attitudes toward, approach to and use of agentic coding and generative AI, if any, for Babylon Lite and CottageCore given you’re an accomplished and published artist as well as a consummate coder. I only ask because personally I’ve struggled with fully embracing these technologies in my own workflow, or finding the right balance for me between fully “old school” DIY and AI assistance. It’s been interesting seeing lately how some true artists and good coders have embraced these technologies to help create some amazing stuff in record time, but I still find it a bit confronting and have been relatively slow to adapt to this new paradigm.
Anyway, maybe in your upcoming podcast it could be something you and @PirateJC discuss? I’d really value your opinions.
So I’m not accepting ANY AI in anything user facing. Meaning all art or music are human done.
For the code, let’s be honest: the industry is switching super fast and I do not want to be left behind. So I definitely used AI assisted tools to help me code the game
