I don’t know if there is a name for that. I’ve seen something similar with instanced grass blades.
Lerp is the corner stone of animation and content creation 
It’s the core of triangle rasterization as well…so many things!
It reminds me an old PG I did some years ago. Many lerp for tentacles!
