Not been on the forum for a while. An old rugby injury problem with my right shoulder Hard to build in Blender when you use the mouse so much!! Anyway it is Christmas and time to bring back my Babylon Christmas card from 2014.
Made in 2014 with some updates in 2015 (Particle smoke from chimneys, terrain changes, additional cottage). The Babylon file used is still the “https://preview.babylonjs.com/babylon.js” preview script - so the latest version I believe that shows the backward compatibility of BJS.
Tested in Firefox and Chrome on Windows 10. The Firefox Browser, like Chrome, now displays a sound “not playing” icon. Not sure why, so probably needs a little code change - but for now just click the icon and it will start. Use the “D” (own) and “U” (up) keys to change the volume. After the music starts you can turn it on/off with the “O” key. Change camera speed with “F” (aster) and “S” (lower).
The little sign is about making Christmas happier for kids, so do what you can.
Merry Christmas, to all, from an old guy suffering from youthful mistakes from the past, gryff
Now tested with Microsoft Edge. Works just like Firefox and Chrome
Ha, I wish all my current aches could be pinned on my youth! My right side is also a recurring issue. What helped was switching from right to left handed mousing. Not sure that is repeatable though. I am left handed. When I first started using a mouse in 1984, the mouse plugged into the right side of the keyboard and the cord was very short. It was either the “rite” way or the highway.
I also tried a standing desk which helped a little, but all I can think about is sitting down.
The sound thing is just how the framework works now. My “complaint” with it is you cannot directly say you are GOING to use sound, just not right at the beginning. Consequently, you miss the first sound. Easily gotten around by playing a short sacrificial sound on load, which never gets heard, but puts the UI for the viewer to turn on at the beginning.
@JCPalmer : Whenever I look at this scene, I think of you. You joined BJS a few months after me and @Deltakosh assigned you the responsibilty for the Blender BJS exporter. One of the first additions to it was the exporting of instances - so I could create all the trees, fence posts and planks. Made creating such things to much easier
As for the mouse/right hand issue, I tried switching the mouse hand - no luck - just fumbling And I only type with one finger from each hand - so 50% KB loss too
@Dad72 : Thanks for the like. You may notice the snowman. It is the Mascot of the Quebec Winter Carival and is known as “Le Bonhomme”. Adds some French culture for all the French speaking folks on this forum who are creators and advocates such as you and @Deltakosh
Always love seeing your christmas cards I know I’m a relative “newcomer” but seeing people come back and talk to each other about the old days really shows the beautiful community that was built around Babylon It’s really really nice. I hope your shoulder heals soon. Do you use an ergonomic mouse? Might help some too.
@carolhmj : thank you for your nice thoughts. I don’t consider you a “newcomer” - you always seem to be here answering questions. To me, that is the strength of this community - you can always get answers You, and all the other members of the “team”, are here uniting the community by answering all those questions . That is one of the reasons why I chose BJS all those years ago - that community spirit
@sebavan :: Well, I’m glad. That is where it all started all those years ago. People like you and @carolhmj have built it up continuously since then - a place where almost any question can get an answer
