Is it possible to control the "hit tolerance" when picking a LineMesh?

Playing with this modified PG, it would appear that there is a tolerance of roughly +/- 0.1 unit around a LineMesh, which makes it easier to pick.

Is there a way to control this setting?
Can someone point at the relevant part of the source code?
