material.needDepthPrePass in SPS blinks in new Chrome

Hi

After the last Chrome update, I noticed that my SPS started to blink when I hovered over Chrome Browser UI buttons and by itself. But mostly when you move your mouse between the page tabs and URL bar.

Here is a PG with the mentioned Babylon JS versions and Chrome version

I can confirm…

Anything on the console? That seems to be a Chrome bug :frowning:

Nothing.

Yes, seems so.

@roland @Deltakosh

I also did not find any performance hit or anything. It just started to blink in the app. This is how I found out. It started on 17th Oct 2024.

It is a Chrome issue but why only this part is doing it? Is there anything in your codebase that causes or its exposed to this?

I cant think of a timeline for Google to fix this, so I’m asking you.

Regards
Peter

Probably related to the fact we have a webgl canvas?

Don’t know…

Can you file a bug report to chromium?

YYYY, it’s your library. You will know what to say better than I do. So can you open it?

Well I appreciate some help and I have no more idea than you on what chrome is doing

FYI WebGPU is not affected.

EDIT: @Deltakosh nor BJS 6.49.0/WebGL2… :see_no_evil:
EDIT2: shit, BJS 6.49/WebGL2 is affected too… Sry  I was moving the cursor too fast over the Chrome tabs

So now you know even more about what to put in your issue to Google Chrome. I’m just the end user and I found this. I was trying to help localize this but please don’t drag me into fixing it with google. been there from my point of view its a waist of time if your not a big player.

I don’t think @peterimg has the experience how to properly report the bug, nor do I

waste of time, yes, I’ve experienced this too… :see_no_evil:

Seriously guys…you go to the website, you describe the issue and done…

Took me 2min…

And I cannot repro btw :frowning:

@roland or @peterimg : please comment on the bug post with your chrome version because mine does not repro…

Actually what you described is not fully accurate. You can have any tabs open or just even wait and it will blink. A lot. Just to have like a hover effect triggered on any Google Chrome UI or even page buttons. Or leave that page open and move mouse they will also blink.

Safari, Firefox - no issues.

You now get why I should not have done the bug? I cannot even repro…

So please comment on the bug

I don’t repro either (Windows 11, Chrome 130.0.6723.71 (Official Build) (64-bit)).
