The Babylon.js Sandbox can now be installed as a Progressive Web App (PWA). This update brings a few practical improvements to your workflow:
Installation
Visit sandbox.babylonjs.com in Chrome, Edge or Safari and click the install icon in the address bar. The Sandbox will be available as a standalone desktop application.

File Handler Registration
Once installed, the Sandbox registers as a file handler for supported formats (.gltf, .glb, .obj, .stl, .babylon, .bvh, .ply, .sog, .splat, .spz). You can double-click a 3D file or use “Open with” to launch it directly in the Sandbox—no need to drag and drop into a browser window.
Offline Support
The PWA works offline, allowing you to inspect local assets without an internet connection.
Documentation has been updated at Sandbox | Babylon.js Documentation.
Known issues
- Edge will register the Sandbox twice in the “Open with” menu. This is fixed in Edge Canary and rolling out.
- Chrome will not associate the Babylon icon with the registered file extensions.
