I concentrated on trying to keep it lightweight and easy to play on a mobile.
I hope it is easy to figure out how to make things work.
It has a replay feature, which works best when played from a desktop.
Please have a look and leave comments.
At least one thing that needs improving:
Its not exactly multiplayer. If you can share a screen, you can play with a buddy. But currently, there is no true multi-player mode or even an opponent AI. For now you can bash balls around, and even do trick shots like draw and push shots and even jumping.
DevNotes–some things you can do that might not be obvious:
double tap the screen to go to an overhead view, in overhead view you can still rotate the table and you can use WASD to move it around. double tap again to return to where you were.
hold the stick and drag up or down to change the shot angle. shoot down on the ball with a fair amount of strength to cause jump shots. this goes hand-in-hand with the application of english to apply a spin to the cue ball.
the replay feature let’s you review all shots in the game so far with a frame by frame travel control, you can dynamically adjust the view angle while in replay mode (this mode is only supported for larger screen formats)
It works well!
Would be good to have some sort of shadow or fake shadow under the balls to get the feeling that they are actually on the surface.
The materials could have some properites, roughness, ambient occlusion aso to make it a bit more umami.
The play feeling is nice!
Yes, check the settings. Shadows were off by default. Mobile performance reasons. Thanks for the feedback.
As a note: I’ve just updated the defaults to shadows on low and to choose a prettier backdrop than plain blue.
I don’t think envmaps or backdrops make much of a difference to the framerate on mobiles, but the shadow settings significantly drop them. Please let me know what you find.
Note: I just updated the shadow algorithms to offer blob shadows as well as the former shadow maps. blob shadows perform much better on mobile.
Super polished! I’m as bad as it as I am in real life
Maybe there could be an option to see a “ghost” stick when moving the camera, so you have a better idea of where is it going to be located before you click on line it up?
Super! You can even use W,A,S,D to fine-tune the spin on the ball. Could you please look into cases where the ball is near the cushion and I’m trying to take a shot?
The cue passes right through the cushion instead of colliding with it and changing its angle. It’s mostly a cosmetic fix, but not completely, since this shot would be impossible in real life.
Right now, the stick will shoot through anything. It’s very forgiving. If there is a ball in the way (I mean between the stick and the cue ball) it will ghost out so you can see where you are applying english. And the stick will shoot like the obstruction isn’t there. That might change in the future, but for now, it makes shooting easier.
Personally, I think the desktop experience is better. I’ve done my best to make it playable on mobile, but the narrow screen format makes it challenging to aim on phones. I hope I can make this better with feedback. These are great observations and considerations posted so far. Thanks guys. I hope I can make it easier to use and fun to play.
