Clone vs instances of Gaussian Splattings

Hi,
Can someone confirm that cloning and creating instances of Gaussian Splatting objects would have the same performance (in terms of memory and computation)?
I would think so because the difference between these two is only materials, and Gaussian Splatting do not have materials.
Thank you,
David

Just here to +1 this question

GS Instances have a lower cost but there is a cost. Splats need to be sorted back to front so they have their own sort buffer and their own web worker.
GS has a material. At its heart, it’s a mesh with a material and effect for Vertex and Fragment shader.
