Deep dive: Shell Shockers' multi-million $ web game success

This is not my work! Also I’m unsure if this is the right category to post it, but I found it inspiring.

The Babylon.js web FPS game Shell Shockers (https://shellshock.io/) I know has been featured and mentioned before but here’s a recent interview article from GameDiscoverCo with the creators about marketing, audience and financial return:

A while ago I first heard of Shell Shockers through an amazing HobbyDrama post (https://www.reddit.com/r/HobbyDrama/comments/10oejss/online_gaming_war_is_shell_how_an_online_game/), and today I’m discovering it’s Babylon based! This is such a funny coincidence  But also a great example case of the advantage of a browser based game over installables (I played my fair share of flash games on computer lab laptops!)

Ultimately all web games now are in HTML5… some are Unity-based, others use 2D platforms like Godot. Some, like Shell Shockers, are unholy mutations of Javascript like Babylon.js.

What an awesome compliment!

Where did you get that from? That’s ‘wishful thinking’ at the best. Plain bullshit at the worst :poop:.
Did you actually quote this from one of this spam buggers :unamused: we tend to see more and more on the forum these days?
I just marked the latest reply to this old thread as ‘possible spam’. I was just 95% sure it was spam and I don’t feel entitled to remove it if I’m not 99% sure it is  …So, I just marked it for ‘moderation’. Though it does look like, in the meantime, it has been removed. So it actually was spam. These guys are just wasting our time with their ridiculeous attempts to shaken our community spirit. If you buggers read this: Know that this will never happen. Not a faen chance :mechanical_arm: :innocent:

I know what you mean @mawa. Really annyoing; especially the new generation of AI spam. But I am getting a feel for it.

Anyway, is the one above really spma? I thought it was a quote from the interview?? And a pretty dumb quote (concerning the “unholy” bit) actually which does warrant some criticism.

So am I, slowly but surely. I still cannot figure the purpose of this. But I’m getting used detecting their pattern (and I’m marking them all so we can ban this practice).

You mean the one reply from @cyborg_ean . No, absolutely not. He’s a valuable member and contributor. I was just wondering where he got this quote from… since as you say… especially the part that qualifies BJS as

strikes me and has me become very suspicious about the means of such a quote. Which again, I find to be 1) irrelevant 2) plain bullshit.

It’s from the article linked in the original post, from the creator of Shell Shockers.

my apologies for denying your sources  I’m still not sure to understand what an ‘unholy javascript’ is  On the other hand, I’m not so much of the religion type :face_with_hand_over_mouth:  Have a great day and sry for disturbance :sunglasses: I tend to become a bit nervous and suspicious with all the buggers lately showing in the forum. I hope we’ll soon find our nice peace and quiet again :relieved:

Is there any way of contacting the authors of Shell Shockers? I would love to beg them to release the source code.

Seems their contacts are publicly available - Blue Wizard Digital » Video Game Studio
