Steam Deck (Linux) and Chrome performance

Hi,

I tried to run my game in Chrome on Steam Deck yesterday and the performance was significantly worse than my M1 Mac Mini which has surprised me very much - I know this is probably a very uncharted territory so I just wanted to ask if anyone knows why that might be

Is that a thing on Linux in general or is that perhaps Steam Deck related?

On that note did anyone try to package BJS with electron, on windows and run it on the deck via Proton?

Thanks
Fox

Hey there!

I wish I could help you with debugging there but… :face_holding_back_tears:

Hopefully other people here have it and can contribute more :stuck_out_tongue:

Through from what I know of the deck, there’s a lot of driver optimization going on so that it can play specific games well. It wouldn’t surprise me if they didn’t do a lot with WebGL optimization since that’s not what Steam games use in most cases
Do you know if your game was CPU or GPU bound?

Awwwwwww I am sorry that sucks! Steam Deck is the best thing ever, I really hope you can get one soon!

Well I tried in Desktop mode which should not be related to Steam games in any way, it should just be a normal desktop experience, but it’s linux who knows.

I saw that there are WebGL games on Steam using Electron so I am thinking about trying that but the biggest issue I see now is that I found no way to recognize Steam Deck inputs in any browser  I tried all of them and none report any connected gamepads, neither any key event is fired when pressing buttons.

Thanks
