BJS in SharePoint

I know there are some devs from Microsoft that get involved with these efforts (I believe MS are somewhat a sponsor?). It would be great if anyone could tag some people who may have influence.

Microsoft use BJS in their SharePoint environment in at least two capacities:

  1. SharePoint Spaces
  2. Viewer for 3d files in the Document Library

Their version is 4.2.1. It would be great to have this updated (7.34.1 available as of posting). Additionally, it would be great to have their implementation of the Viewer on GitHub for PRs and feature requests. There is a lot of potential being missed such as interactive hotspots, which is all related to what others are doing here. I think it could really promote the engine as SharePoint is used across many industries.

I know SharePoint admins are able to enable scripting to allow custom JS apps but the issue is this is very rarely adopted due to IT resources/policies not allowing. I would like to be involved with the open development of their Viewer, I think it could be a carbon copy of Viewer V2 with a plugin for the SharePoint events. It’s wasted time duplicating efforts and believe it should be Open Source by nature. NB: I am creating an Asset Library closely coupled with file explorer/SharePoint documents. There is a lot of potential creating hotspots from SharePoint lists/metadata. If Microsoft want to reach-out for a contract I am happy to discuss.

For #2, OneDrive and SharePoint have actually already been updated to use a new version of BJS and the new Babylon Viewer v2 for previewing files in the document library, and should be live in production any day now!

For SharePoint Spaces, I’m not sure, but I can try to find out.
