Extend the functionality of standard or PBR material with a custom vertex shader

I would like to use my custom vertex shader with standard or PBR material.
In my search for an answer, I came across a topic dating back to 2015.

But I hope that over these 5 years the situation could change, and a more direct method has appeared?

You can use CustomMaterial / PBRCustomMaterial:

Also, PBR is coming to the NME, so it will also be an option when it’s in.
