[metaverse] reboot | open-source=true

Hello everyone,

I know some of you are in a hurry, so here are the direct links to the projects. It’s simple: just your PC and an internet connection:

Private Metaverse (Vorscine showroom) = vorscine metaverse
Public Metaverse, Suerna Protocol with Dynamic URLs = suerna

Vorscine: the art of transitioning from a 2D website to a 3D universe, starting at the 15-second mark :

For those with a bit more time, let me introduce the project in 3 parts. I promise it’ll be quick, and I think you’ll like it!

PART 1 / Public Metaverse – Suerna Protocol :vulcan_salute:

You already know the concept of a metaverse: a persistent virtual world. Zuckerberg popularized it with Meta, but it’s a closed, centralized, and limited system. Suerna offers a different approach: each plot of land in the metaverse has its own URL. You can move from one plot to another, from site to site, or from page to page if the plots are on the same website. The idea is simple, but it opens up massive possibilities. Here are the key points:

  1. A common convention: We define the rules together – plot size, how to link them, and how to become neighbors.
  2. A simple and efficient code: It manages the loading of assets for each plot, prioritizing the ones around you to maintain good performance.
  3. A ready-to-use kit: If things go well, we could create an npm package that anyone can use to build their own metaverse with BabylonJS.

I’m not a developer, but I’m convinced this project has potential. So, I’m reaching out to you, the BabylonJS community. If you find this interesting, let me know in the comments, and I’ll make the Git repo public. With your talents, I’m certain we can turn Suerna into an open-source and decentralized metaverse protocol based on BabylonJS in just a week. Who’s in?

PART 2 / Private Metaverse – Vorscine :face_in_clouds:

Now, a concrete example of Suerna in action: Vorscine, my private metaverse. Suerna ensures visual continuity between plots, but on your plot, you can do whatever you like. Vorscine is both my showroom and my virtual store. The idea is to simplify the user experience for e-commerce in Web 3.0. No need for account creation—everything is done via wallet connect for Ethereum purchases. The proof of transaction is stored on the Ethereum network, and the only link between me and the buyer is the shipping address.

But the concept doesn’t stop there. My plot neighbor could be an NGO, an artist, or even a game developer. Imagine linking our plots to organize events or shared experiences like car races. Everyone is free to create their own universe.

I’m quite comfortable with Blender, but not so much with textures. I’m thinking of organizing contests to improve the visuals and add elements to my plot—sea, mountains, roads, a marina… Who wants to be my neighbor?

PART 3 – Oscar Wilde :sparkles:

“Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars.” Before this quote was recycled by Facebook, it was from Oscar Wilde, and I find it inspiring. I’ve always drawn cars, watches, and glasses. In 2017, I invested all my early salaries not in a car or housing, but in my creations. A talented craftsman produced my first batch of glasses. The product was great, but I wasn’t much of a salesman.

That’s when I decided to create my own online store. After several failed attempts with Unity, Unreal, and ThreeJS, I discovered BabylonJS. It was the perfect solution for my needs. I started working on the metaverse around 2020, and despite my limited development skills, I managed to make the project functional. That’s when I came up with the idea for Suerna.

You know the rest! If you’ve read this far, congratulations, and a big thank you!

Now, can the Jedi Council appoint a lead dev for this project :upside_down_face:?

Thank you for your support! Since the first version of Suerna presented yesterday, I’ve made daily progress. I integrated Express-based APIs so multiple sites can seamlessly share neighbors and preload assets, making each boundary crossing genuinely change the URL and simulate an interconnected network of independent worlds (this new feature is still in development and not yet deployed to the online demo). Meanwhile, I tested the Vorscine metaverse from my end and it ran smoothly with WebGL, including the first successful ETH transactions—truly an excellent experience :sunglasses:

Even though the concept of the metaverse may not be moving huge crowds right now, major hardware evolutions are on the horizon, as evidenced by Apple’s Vision Pro. When the industry pivots back toward these immersive environments, we need to be ready with a robust, open-source software layer. An open protocol ensures that as new devices and ecosystems emerge, everyone can benefit and innovate together. I’ll keep refining Suerna as I await more community feedback—I think it’s important.
