Only part of decal appears

In the example below only a portion of a decal is shown

Any suggestions on how it can be fixed?

The point is behind the plane, as you can see here:

I draw a sphere at the point location and make the alpha of the plane’s material vary. We can see the sphere disappear when the material is fully opaque.

If you put the point in front of the plane it does work:

Got it - so to place a decal, the location should be above the target surface, not below it
