After developing AO Lightmapper as a desktop application and Node.js solution for automated AO lightmap baking, I decided to bring the workflow directly into Babylon.js Sandbox with a dedicated Chrome extension: Quick AO Lightmapper.
The extension adds a one-click lightmap baking tool inside Babylon Sandbox, allowing users to generate and apply Ambient Occlusion (AO) lightmaps without leaving the browser.
The extension is currently under review and awaiting approval in the Chrome Web Store.

Open Source, Free & Pro
Most of the AO Lightmapper project, including the core baking technology and supporting tools, is already available on GitHub. The Chrome extension is the only component that remains closed-source.

The extension includes a free tier that allows AO lightmap generation at 512×512 resolution, making it accessible to everyone.
For users who need higher resolutions and future premium features, a Pro version will be available for just $4 via Buy Me a Coffee.
Supporting the project helps fund maintenance, bug fixes, performance improvements, and future tools for the Babylon.js and 3D development community.
Quick AO Lightmapper uses third-party open-source libraries, and all applicable licenses are respected. The extension is an independent project and is not affiliated with Babylon.js or Microsoft.
As soon as the extension is approved, I’ll share the Chrome Web Store link along with a few demos and examples.
Thanks again to everyone supporting the project. The Babylon.js community continues to be an incredible source of motivation and inspiration. ![]()
