I’m excited to present my new project — the underwater interactive museum “And we were…”.
This is a non-commercial initiative aimed at drawing attention to some of the key issues of modern society.
The project is designed in an underwater style: each sculpture is accompanied by sound effects, and the website itself has an immersive audio atmosphere (for the best experience, I recommend using headphones).
The project is currently in the beta testing stage, so I would greatly appreciate your feedback — any ideas for improvements or reports of bugs will help make it better.
Absolutely gorgeous art and solves a lot of underwater problems (surface rendering, caustics, glare, sea-aged textures) so realistically. This aesthetic is one I love so much too (peacefulness of underwater immersion). I am so inspired! Thanks for sharing with us
Wowww, very beautiful !!! Amazing development with Babylon
A few comments:
Performance is rather good even for my poor graphics card
Loading is a bit long, but mostly because the percentage is not accurate. It progressed slowly till 30% and then it directly showed it.
The initial choice of interface is a bit awkward, maybe a little animation would work better than text. It is tricky I know, I also struggled myself on how to do it in my project.
Hmm… It should looks like this. On PC. I didn’t implement animatated 3d hints only for horizontal orientation for mobile phones. In any other case you should see 3d animated hints
Sorry I missed the animations ! Nevertheless, I did not know what to choose and Im familiar with the problem. The excursion mode is a bit confusing, I ended up spining around. I personally prefer to fix the method (one for touch screen and another for keyboard/mouse) and explain it to the user properly. Maybe you can have a “carried-away” method where the camera is moves on its own and then the user can take over control at any time.
When i faced the same issue in my project the options i liked more were:
arrow keys + mouse drag to spin (on pc)
drag the finger to move forward, drag 2 finger to spin (on mobile)
Will think about it! Describing of navigation is really complex task. It’s difficult to develop the approach that will fit well experienced users as well as users with no experience in navigation in 3d space. I thought that navigation is easy enough because I made a “mother-test” and she handled both types of navigation. Nevertheless I think I should think about it a bit more. Thank you!
The title of your project “And we were…” carries the same depth as the oceans themselves — a quiet, socially critical call about climate change. It opens a vision of a possible future where the planet is entirely embraced by water, and only the memory of sunken cultures remains — voices from the deep softly whispering: “We once were…”
Very poetic, deeply political, profoundly sad — and yet, so very beautiful.
The long-term goal of this project is to create digital versions of culturally significant places across our planet that are difficult to visit in person - due to distance, health conditions, financial limitations, or lack of time.
To make it possible for people to feel the atmosphere of these places, the ideas behind them, and to see their aesthetics.
This museum is not a digital copy of a real place; it’s an example of how virtual representations of real locations can look and what kind of experiences they can offer.
I hope to find people who will support the project and help me create such experiences for different parts of the world.
If you like the project, please share the link with your friends!
And if you have an idea about which place on the planet could be the next one — please let me know.
