Hello everyone,
I’m currently working on a WebGL project built with Babylon.js that offers a virtual tour of the city of Dieppe (Normandy, France).
The goal is to recreate the downtown area (around the Saint-Jacques church and nearby streets) in 3D, so users can freely explore the environment directly in their browser.
Main features so far:
-
Open world multiplayer powered by Colyseus (real-time exploration with other players).
-
Immersive environment with recognizable landmarks and local architecture.
-
Gamification elements:
-
an Easter egg hunt hidden in the city,
-
a multiplayer FPS mode is planned (not yet active).
-
-
Physics with Havok: a usable ball on the beach lawn that players can interact with.
-
Dynamic sea level: the water height changes in real time, based on actual tide data.
Current limitations:
-
The FPS mode is not yet active (coming soon).
-
VR movement on Meta Quest has stopped working since the latest update and needs fixing.
-
The sound ambiance still requires improvements.
My goal is to combine cultural heritage, exploration, and gamification, making an experience that blends local history with modern 3D technology.

I’d love to hear your feedback, especially on:
-
performance and optimization tips for open worlds in Babylon.js,
-
best practices for multiplayer synchronization,
-
and any ideas to enhance immersion (graphics, VR, sound, interactivity).
Thanks in advance for your insights!
