Abnormal Brightness in Gaussian Splatting from Specific Viewing Angles

Image Image

h1_.zip

Description:
The Gaussian Splatting renderer displays abnormally bright artifacts when viewed from specific angles. This issue does not occur on other platforms or viewers.

Reproduction Steps:

  1. Load the attached scene/data.

  2. Navigate the camera to a specific angle (e.g., looking from the top-right corner).

  3. Observe the overly bright or washed-out splats.

Expected Behavior:
The scene should maintain consistent lighting and brightness from all viewing angles, consistent with its behavior on other platforms.

Actual Behavior:
From certain angles, parts of the scene become excessively bright, degrading the visual quality and accuracy.

I can repro! I’m looking for a fix …

uhm. Interesting. Where is this coming from?
Was this an issue all the time?
Would be good to understand the source of that behavior, so we can check our project as well.

Best. Werner

Incorrect use of undefined field in .PLY (nx, ny, nz) resulting in empty SH creation.

So, if you are not using ply or don’t have undefined field, you won’t see that bug.
