HDR environment from skymaterial


I was wondering whether it’s possible to use sky material to generate a HDR environment for image based lighting?
Right now it can be used to create a reflection texture, but it’s not quite the same thing.

I think it would be pretty cool - what do you think?
Does anyone have some idea how to approach this? I am not sure what it takes and if it’s even possible/reasonable to do.

You could use the sky mat on a box, use a reflection probe in the box to generate the cube texture and then prerprocess it as we do from hdr to env maybe ?

The issue though is that the skymaterial would need to support hdr which is not the case at the moment
