Ok straight up our GUI engine does not get enough love. The more I work with it and the more custom elements that have been designed for it now that are in my inventory is ridiculous how powerful its becoming for me.
It is a fully fleshed out 2d rendering engine that could honestly be used for app creation in itself. There has been cases when I’ve had to mix in RTTs, Do masks and blending, custom drawing methods etc and its all been a cake walk.
Things like tooltips, popup notifications, reactive dialogs/text/input, sliders, toggles everything its all so easy to make and turn into a extension component that can just be reused time and time again.
Anyways, just wanted to give hats off to everyone involved in the creation of that system. Its really well thought out and has so many good things to it that it amazes me it does not get more attention other than simple interaction UIs.
I’ve been putting “Retro” GUI Asset packs together for a couple of my prototypes. Might have to release one here soon.
This chat thing here though, this is exactly what I’m talking about. It probably runs amazing, and is a FULL CANVAS APP, like wtf!?! that is dope, you know how hard it is to programing a canvas engine that has all the hotspots and dirty marking setup for partial updates etc (I know how hard it is because in the past I’ve made engines for it)… like this thing is a powerhouse…
The GUI took some getting used to but it’s power is very compelling! I’ve been making a lot of crispy Ui animations and 2D animations with it. Here’s the loading text from the current iteration of my loading screen:
