Hey @srzerbetto
I remember in another thread I have heard BabylonJS team does have a plan enabling shadow generator for rectAreaLight. Just wondering do you have a timeline when approximately this featured will be available? Really hope to have this feature since it will be another big milestone for lighting realism.
Very best,
Tawibox
We are planning to start working in the implementation for that at the end of July.

@srzerbetto I have a production-ready use case just waiting for that shadow! B-)
Here, the RectAreaLight is placed just under the front lip of the top, aimed downward and a little forward to light the insides of these drawers. Area in green on the floor is in need of that shadow to be cast by the open drawer.
Other scene lights off merely to illustrate.
A workaround would be to exclude the floor mesh from the area light (areaLight.excludedMeshes.push(floorMesh)).

Hi @brechindo,
I ended up having other work that took priority over the area lights shadows implementation. We have scheduled this work to start mid September. Please let me know if the workaround proposed by Evgeni_Popov works for your case.

Alas, in this case no. That would block the entire reflection, not just the area in green. Also, the drawers are dynamic. They slide in and out, which should change the occluded area in real-time.
